(HCS) - The 2012-2013 School Year Calendar was approved by the HCS Board of Education at its March 12, 2012 meeting. The calendar accounts for 180 student days.  Key dates include:

• August 9 - 1st day of school for students
• November 21-23 - Thanksgiving holidays
• December 24-Jan. 4  - Winter break
• January 8 - Students return to school for second semester
• March 25-29 - Spring break
• May 22 - HHS graduation (UAB Bartow Arena)
• May 22 - SPHS graduation (Samford University Pete Hanna Center)
• May 23 - Last day of school for most students

The calendar includes 188 days for teachers, including professional development time.
