Westerlund Wins 2017 NCWIT Award

01-March- 2017 (HHS) – Hoover High School educator Mrs. Jill Westerlund is the recipient of 2017 National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) Aspirations Educator Award for the Alabama Chapter of the NCWIT.

Westerlund was chosen based on her contributions to the field, her commitment to the IT community, and her overall dedication to student achievement. She teaches AP Computer Science Principles, AP Computer Science, IB Computer Science and coordinates the Cooperative Education Program at Hoover High School.

NCWIT is a national non-profit organization working to increase the meaningful participation of girls and women in computing. Westerlund will be honored with the special award, along with a host of high school young women receiving their own awards, at a formal banquet in Tuscaloosa on April 29, 2017.
