10-July-2017 (HCS) - After three years a group of students at Hoover High School has completed "The Great Mail Race," a project led by student Harlinn Vasquez. For this project, students in the special needs classroom wrote and mailed letters to schools across the United States with the goal of receiving a return letter from each state. Each letter mailed out by HHS students discussed their classroom and important facts about their school, as well as the state of Alabama.

“The students were anxious to check the mail daily to see if they received a letter,” Patti Chase, Hoover HS aide, said. “There were some states they had to write to multiple times in order to get a return letter.”

Just prior to the conclusion of the 2016-2017 school year, the students received their last letter, completing all 50 states.
