From WBRC:

HOOVER, AL (WBRC) - Hoover High School will break ground on it’s new $5.4 million band facility in the coming weeks.

The Hoover School Board approved the new facility Tuesday.

The 34,000 square-foot facility will feature large practice rooms, and storage space for instruments and equipment.

"We are currently storing equipment and instruments in the halls because we don’t have enough room,” said Hoover High School Band Director Ryan Fitchpatrick.

Hoover currently has 352 members, but the school expects that number to increase to 400 over the coming years.

“The new building was necessary because of the growth we’ve had. It’s been six years in the making,” Fitchpatrick added.

Part of the funds from the sale of the old Berry High School will pay for the new facility.

Construction is set to begin in the next couple of weeks. It will take ten months to complete with the hopes of opening in August 2018.
