Attn Seniors and Parents: GRADUATION INFORMATION

Hoover HS Seniors and Families, please see the information below as we head toward Graduation for the Class of 2018:

Bayou Bash: Bayou Bash will be on Monday, May 14th. Permission slips may be picked up from either room G212 or C229. The cost is $15, which includes breakfast, lunch, and a t-shirt. Attendance will be taken in 1st period before Bayou Bash. Money and permission slips are due Friday, May 4th when caps and gowns are distributed.

 


Google Chromebook Return: Chromebooks and chargers must be returned to Ms. Angell in D148 May 1st through May 14th. The last and final date to turn in chromebooks is May 18th. However, no Chromebooks will be accepted on the 15th and 16th. When turning in chromebooks, chargers must be wrapped by a rubber band or velcro. The charge for a missing charger is $40. If you have a question regarding damage, please check in advance with Ms. Angell in D 148.  Seniors who are not clear with their Chromebooks cannot attend Bayou Bash.


Balfour: $80 payment for cap, gown, tassel, diploma and cover can be purchased online (alabamabalfour.com) or by phone (205-733-1060).  Contact Balfour directly with any questions. Announcements can still be ordered at balfour.com 


Senior Walk 2018: Graduates of the Class of 2018 can participate in the Senior Walk where seniors parade through the halls of their elementary school and/or middle school dressed in cap and gown .Seniors will not be in school on May 21st, so transportation is by private vehicle and participation is voluntary.

When: May 21 at 9:00am at elementary schools, middle schools to follow (times are tentative)

Where: at the elementary school and/or middle school attended or zoned

What: Students arrive at elementary schools at 9:00 and report to the school’s front office dressed in cap and gown. An HHS school representative will be at each school to assist with the Senior Walk. 


Awards Day: Senior Awards Day is Friday, May 11th. Every senior should have completed the 2018 Senior Exit Survey, Final Transcript Request, and Scholarship Notification found at https://goo.gl/forms/EIsSoLqO1Y41GEUm as part of their elearning. This information will be used to send final transcripts, determine recognition at Awards Day, and list scholarships in the graduation program.

Only students who submit this form by Friday, April 13th and are ACCEPTING college and/or community-based scholarships will be recognized at Awards Day on May 11th at 9:15 AM in the HHS Competition Gym. Scholarships offered and NOT ACCEPTED will not be recognized at Awards Day but will be printed in the graduation program and will be included in the Class of 2018 offered scholarship total announced at graduation.

If you are notified of a scholarship any time after completing the survey, please email Mrs. Bond (cbond@hoover.k12.al.us) so it can be added to Awards Day and/or the scholarship program. In addition to accepted scholarships, we also recognize at Awards Day military enlistment and students who have maintained a cumulative 4.0 GPA.

If you are still waiting to hear on admission to a college or about a possible scholarship, please complete as much of the survey as possible. List the colleges and scholarships you are considering, and then contact Mrs. Bond with your final decision.


Senior Breakfast: The Senior Class Breakfast will be held at Hunter Street Baptist Church (Highway 150) on Thursday, May 24th at 8:00 AM. Breakfast tickets will go on sale during cap and gown distribution on Friday, May 4th. Deadline for breakfast ticket purchases is Thursday, May 17th. Tickets are $6 and can be purchased in Mrs. Darling’s room, B215. A catered breakfast will be served at 8:00 AM. Tickets cannot be purchased at the door, and outside food and drinks will not be allowed inside the church. STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEND THE BREAKFAST, BUT ARE NOT REQUIRED TO BUY A TICKET FOR THE CATERED BREAKFAST IF THEY DO NOT WISH TO EAT.

Transportation to Graduation Practice (Thursday, May 24th): No seniors will be permitted to drive personal vehicles to practice. After breakfast, seniors will board buses at the church building at 9:00 AM to be transported to Bartow Arena. Roll will be taken on the buses. There is NO PARKING AVAILABLE at Bartow Arena at that time of day; therefore, it is MANDATORY that seniors ride on their assigned bus in order to attend practice.

**NOTE: As a reminder to parents planning family activities the day of graduation, students will be involved in MANDATORY practice until approximately 1:00 PM. Also, plan to have family activities curtailed by 5:30 PM so that seniors can be at Bartow Arena by the required time of 6:00 PM.

ALL GIRLS MUST WEAR APPROPRIATE HEIGHT HEELS TO PRACTICE. You will practice walking in your heels at graduation practice. Graduates will walk down stairs during the ceremony, so it is important that girls wear appropriate height heels. 


Graduation: Graduation will be held at Bartow Arena on Thursday, May 24th at 7:00 PM. Seniors will be given eight tickets. Cap, gown, and graduation tickets will be distributed on Friday, May 4th. If you are absent that day you may come to Mrs. Darling’s room , B215, during 5th period only to pick up your cap, gown and tickets. Seniors must pay Balfour the $80 graduation fee in order to pick up their cap and gown. You will NOT be given your cap and gown until you pay your fee. NOTE: If you owe any money to HHS bookkeeping, library, lunchroom, athletics, choir, etc., you will not be allowed to pick up your cap and gown . There are no extra graduation tickets, so please do not call or email for extra tickets. Lost tickets cannot be replaced, so be very careful! Tickets will be issued to students ONLY and students must present their ID in order to obtain tickets.

Graduates MUST arrive at Bartow Arena by 6:00 PM for graduation. DO NOT BE LATE. Young men should wear nice dress pants, a dress shirt, a tie, and appropriate shoes. Young ladies should wear a nice dress and shoes of appropriate height. Students should arrive in their caps and gowns.  Caps cannot be decorated and/or embellished for graduation. If you do not comply with the dress code, then you will not participate in graduation.

On the night of graduation, parking should not be a problem. All lots will be open for our use. Doors for guests will be opened at 6:00 PM. Remember that UAB Security will not allow saving/reserving seats. Our seniors have responsibilities before and after the ceremony. Please plan to meet graduates after the ceremony in a prearranged, designated area.


Handicapped Seating: Hoover High School is happy to provide assistance with handicapped seating for wheelchair-bound guests plus one other member of the family for the 2018 Graduation Ceremony. In order to plan for the needs of your family, please complete the request for handicapped seating at the following link: http://bit.ly/2mtmEnh. Guests requiring handicapped seating will be offered entry to the Bartow arena between 5:30-6:00 P.M.  General admission will open at 6:00PM.
