I'm originally from Dothan, Alabama, a small town in southeastern Alabama near the Florida and Georgia borders. I moved to Birmingham, AL at the age of 20 to attend the University of Alabama at Birmingham. I graduated in 1993 with a Bachelors of Science in Education, concentration in Economics and Political Science. I began my teaching career at Hoover High School in 1994.
I taught at Hoover for 4 1/2 years and while there I earned a Master's in Education, also from UAB, in 1996. I decided to change careers in 1999 and went into corporate training for a large telecommunications firm. In addition to training I performed extensive project management and technical writing for this company over an 8 year period. I am certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP). However, I was laid off by my company in March of '07 and during the job search I interviewed to go back into teaching at Hoover High, got the job and started back in 2007 doing that full-time.
I have two children, a boy aged 14 and a girl aged 11. Between their activities and my hobby as a musician I stay pretty busy. I also love all sports but especially football (Roll Tide)!
