Lori Elgin grew up in Altoona, Pennsylvania where she earned a basketball scholarship to the University of New Mexico. She began her coaching career at the University of Texas at El Paso as an assistant while finishing her degree.  She continued to coach at the high school level in El Paso and then in Virginia where she had the opportunity to coach girl's tennis, both the girl's and boy's varsity basketball as well as assisting at a Division 3 college (Marymount University) in the area.  From there she landed the Women's Basketball position at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee where she met her husband Jim, who was the head baseball coach and assistant football coach at the time.  They got married a couple of years later and moved to Hoover where they had their son, Scott who is now 17 years old and a senioir student-athlete (baseball player) at Hoover High School  She has been at Hoover High School for since 1999, where she coached girl's basketball her first eight years and now coaches girl's golf.
