I was born and raised in east Tennessee but moved to middle Tennessee to attend college. There, I met my husband, started my teaching career and we started our family. In 2010, we celebrated the arrival of our second son and moved to southeast Ohio so my husband could attend Ohio University. Our family moved to Alabama in the summer of 2014 when my husband accepted a job at Samford University and I became a proud member of the Buc Nation.

My family is a priority to me and the minute a student walks into my classroom, he/she becomes a part of that family. I have the same expectations for students as I do my children:

  • Be safe
  • Be kind
  • Never give up
  • Work hard so we can have fun

Despite all our moves, I have always remained close to my beloved Appalachian mountains. I have also always believed that education gives people power to choose a path that brings them joy. I am still on my path and hope that each of my students will travel that path with me so they can gain the power to find their joy.
