Carl Floyd Jr serves as an ESL Teacher and Coach within the Hoover City School system. He became a member of Hoover City Schools in 2012. Floyd received his B.A. and M.S. degrees in Spanish and Criminal Justice from The University of Alabama and his M.Ed. in Second Language Acquisition and Teaching (SLAT): English for Speakers of Other Languages (P-12). In addition to a variety of leadership positions, he served as Holmes Scholar of the Alabama Consortium for Educational Renewal, which promoted school-university-community partnerships in the Tuscaloosa area and provided services and support to local schools.

As a Second Language Acquisition Teacher, he believes that language is learned through meaningful interactions and discourse. He also recognizes the important role that the first language has on the learners’ target language development.

Floyd values culture and truly enjoys working with youth from all over the world. From spending much of his childhood living overseas and summers in Spain studying abroad, Floyd has gained a higher level of compassion for youth growing up and learning a new language in a foreign land. One of his greatest passions is to advocate for youth and community. He desires to develop programs to better serve these communities and be a “connecting-point” to positive development.
