Hoover Co-op/Work-Based Learning an elective program that provides students with the opportunity to explore career development and employment while building college and career readiness skills.  Students in 11th and 12th grade are eligible for participation in Co-op/WBL.

 2nd Period, 5th Period, Blended -- C133         

         

AP Computer Science Principles is a new advance placement course launched by CollegeBoard in 2016-17.   Any student in 10-12 grades should consider this interesting elective about computer science.   The course centers around student creative problem solving in the areas of global impact of computing, data and information, programming, abstraction, algorithms, and the Internet.  

There is no required pre-requisite; however, Algebra I or higher is recommended.

NOTE:  the Hoover High blended course is open only to those students who are enrolled in Hoover's Engineering Academy 2-4 or who have completed the APCS-A course.   

Course content, information, work submission is managed via Canvas Learning. 


 

        

3rd Period -- C133         

         

Advance Placement Computer Science A is a course on object-oriented programming in the Java language.  Students will focus on the Big Ideas of programming fundamentals, class design, class methods, class composition, inheritance and 2-dimensional arrays.  A variety of projects will be help students develop problem-solving skills using computational thinking and development of applications.   

There is no required pre-requisite; however, Algebra II or higher is recommended.

NOTE:  APCS-A is a pre-requisite for IBCS.

IB Computer Science is available to students in Hoover's IB program.  For more information, see the IB Director, Mr. Brad Coltrane.


 

 

NOTE:  All course handouts and an assignment calendar will be maintained through Canvas learning management system.  Students will be enrolled in the Canvas section for the course.
